The members of the LSGC Team all arrived from various quarters at the AA Saint Omer Golf Club on a dank, rainy morning on Thursday 5th October. The rain cleared whilst we enjoyed a lovely meal meeting our opponents from the Golf Club du Palais coupled with some super red wine to loosen the swings.
We played a four ball better ball that afternoon (which we lost) and retired to the hotel a couple of yards away, where we had a nice meal and were warmly greeted to Saint Omer by our opponents.
The following day we had a morning round of foursomes and greensomes in the afternoon. Suffice it to say that the weather was nice, the course long and very hilly, the lunch most refreshing and the loss by the LSGC convincing!!
A final meal was enjoyed in a nice restaurant in Saint Omer where the LSGC Captain, Simon Bowdler, presented the trophy to Philippe Missika, the Captain of the Golf Club du Palais Team. The other trophy was an LSGC trophy presented to the most successful member of the LSGC Team which this year was Kevin Martin a former President of the Law Society as well as a former Captain of the LSGC. Closing speeches were made by Philippe Missika and Simon Bowdler. Simon has now been nicknamed “Renee” following his mixed French/English speech but of that only another glass of red wine will tell!
Great camaraderie and friendships established over many years of this match were reenforced and new friendships formed. It was a great game and all left looking forward to renewing the friendships and rivalries next year.
