We played, what was for most of us, a new golf course, namely East Herts GC – a parkland course boasting some fabulous large, old and varied trees. Dry like every other golf course in the UK, the greens were wonderful but not easy. Like a number of our matches it was hectic.Four ball in the morning and foursome in the afternoon. Lunch was taken on a rolling basis and there were a number, on both sides, who questioned whether 27 holes in the day might be an option. It would not have helped The LSGC, as we didn’t perform well in the morning and were trailing 4 1/2 to 1 1/2. A spirited come back in the afternoon allowed us to lose more modestly by 7pts to 5pts. This was the 31st match since being reinvented by Brian Pettifer and Marjorie, a JP, who both kindly donated the wonderful Cup that will remain with our opponents for the next year. A special mention to Yvonne Brown who played in her first LSGC match, who, like everyone else, throughly enjoyed our day in sunny Hertfordshire.
