How It Works
Becoming a Member of the Law Society Golf Club opens up a whole new, fun golfing experience…..
- Opportunity to play prestigious UK and European Courses. Amongst those we have played are Ganton, Royal St. Georges, Royal Liverpool, Royal Cinque Ports, Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham, Trevose, Woodhall Spa, New Zealand, and Saunton.
- Play International matches against teams from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Jersey, Belgium, France, Holland, Germany and Ontario, and play return “home and away”.
- Play an assortment of day matches against other professional organisations. Please see the fixtures and events list Fixtures.
- Play in the EUROPEAN LEGAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP held every three years – most recently at Palmares Ocean Living and Golf Resort, Lagos, Algarve, Portugal in June 2023, the venue for the last 4 Championships. Previously the Championship has been played at, amongst other venues, Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club, Chiclana, Cadiz, Spain. Bring the family, enjoy the superb resort facilities and the golfing championship.

Firstly, The Fixtures List
See what LSGC has to offer by going to Fixtures.
The fixtures for forthcoming Season are usually posted to the website by the end of January.
The major LSGC Meetings have their own page on this site: Spring Meeting, Autumn Meeting, Winter Lunch, and international golf matches.
If you wish to have more details on any of the matches or meetings, please contact the Secretary. mwoosnam@btinternet.com
Then, Choose Your Matches
It’s never too early to decide which matches you would like to play in. Some matches can be oversubscribed and, as places are generally allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, it’s to your advantage to ensure you click on to the I’m Interested in Playing Form and send the form with your choices to the Secretary.
The Secretary or Match Manager will organise the team for each fixture and contact the players.
If you are invited to play, it is essential that you confirm you acceptance as soon as possible.
When Selected To Play
When you agree to play, it is likely that some payment will be required. The details of any such payment will be available from either the Secretary or the Match Manager. Please advise the Secretary of any payments made.
The outstanding balance will be requested before the match date, and should be settled promptly. Purely as a guide, we aim to keep the daily cost of matches within a range between £90 to £150 for at least one round of golf, lunch and light refreshments.
Tee Times and pairings are sent out at least one week before the fixture. You should arrange to arrive at the course in good time.
Matches
General
It is intended that members attending any meeting or match will be informed of the other participants so that, if possible, they can share travel, know where others intend to stay and/or dine. The LSGC prides itself on friendliness and a warm welcome to all. Nobody should be left on their own!
Spring Meeting – Only open to members
Notice of the date and venue of the meeting is posted on the Home Page website.
The entry form should be emailed to the Secretary and payment of any deposit should be made to the Club’s current account and notified to the Secretary.
- Tee times and pairings are forwarded to participating members at least a week before the event.
- 36 holes of golf are played over the meeting with lunch/dinner included.
- The first round is normally stableford foursomes.
- The second round is stableford singles.
- Recently the meeting has been played over 2 days, afternoon on day 1 and morning on day 2.
Members are responsible for any accommodation arrangements. The LSGC will try to provide a short list of suitable hotels near the course.
Autumn Meeting – Open to members and guests
Advance notice is always given in the Fixture List and at the Spring Meeting.
You can invite a Guest to the meeting as your playing partner and enter as a playing pair for the event. Your Guest does not have to be a law professional to be invited by you. Members are expected to pay the entry fee for themselves and their guest to the LSGC.
A ‘Guest’ can be a fellow LSGC member but this may prevent such a pairing winning the main prizes! All members are encouraged to attend and the Secretary will arrange pairings for members who do not have a guest or preferred playing partner.
- A reminder email will be sent to all members some two months before the event. Any entry form should be completed and forwarded to the Secretary together with the details of the payment of the deposit or full amount.
- Tee times and pairings are forwarded to participating members at least a week before the event.
- 36 holes of golf are played over the day, consisting of two separate foursomes competitions, morning and afternoon, with prizes including for the aggregate totals.
- Lunch is included.
- Depending upon the location, members and guests normally stay in a hotel the night before/after the event, and the LSGC usually supplies a short list of possible hotels near the course. All hotel bookings are undertaken personally and at an extra cost to the Autumn Meeting.
One-Day Matches
An invitation will be sent out to members available to participate some weeks before the match date. This will confirm the date, the venue and the cost of the match including details of whether coffee, lunch and/or afternoon tea or dinner is included.
Confirmation/acceptance of the invitation will be required from you, together with a payment to cover the match fees.
Two/Three Day International Matches
A formal invitation will be sent out to available members some months before the match dates. This invitation will confirm the dates, the venue and probably the cost of the green fees and any deposit. Confirmation/acceptance of the invitation will be required from you, together with payment of any initial amount due. International Matches are hosted, year on year, ‘home and away’ and in almost all the matches the costs are broken down to the individual player. Whilst accommodation will be arranged by the host team captain/Match Manager, players will be responsible for their own travel arrangements.
European Championships/Canadian Matches/Golfing Holidays
For these events and matches we have been able to golf on some of the best courses. In past years these have taken place in Northern Italy, Aigua Blava and Novo Sancti Petri in Spain where the last five of the seven European Legal Team Championships have taken place. They operate as group holidays with spouses or partners very welcome. Golf is balanced with social events.
The Ontario Bar have hosted matches throughout Canada, sometimes on true championship courses. The 2022 venue was Cabot Bay, Newfoundland. Just “google” it! They want to go back there too!
The match with the Ontario Bar now operates as a “Quadrangular” with the Scots and French. The hosting of this is on a 4-year cycle with no “Quadrangular” match in a year when the European Championships is held.
If you want to have a Ryder/Solheim/Curtis/Walker cup experience in your golfing life then the international matches and especially the European Championships are “must dos”.
These events are publicised well in advance – click the link to read more about the 2023 Championship Event in Portugal.
Payments
- Members are expected to make payments through BACS.
- Payments should be done for one match/event at a time.
- The reference for a payment is the name of the match.
- Should it be necessary to pay by cheque then it should be payable to LSGC with details written on the back.
- The above points apply equally to matches where the Match Manager takes payment. The Secretary still needs to know of payments made!
