July has been reported as the driest on record and all golfers I am sure have seen the impact of this on our courses and particularly the fairways. The weather in fact caused the postponement of our fixture with the Magistrates. It was scheduled for the Tuesday on which you will recall record temperatures were reached and the sensible consensus was that it was best to postpone rather than risk the health of any participant. It has now been rearranged for later in the year.
The Seniors Meeting at Finham Golf Club was won by Jenny Arnold with two really impressive rounds of golf. The overall turnout was disappointingly low, particularly given the quality of both course and clubhouse, but Jenny’s performance was such that I am sure she would have won regardless of numbers! Huge congratulations Jenny.
We had only one International fixture – with the Paris Bar (Golf Club du Palais) at Woking and New Zealand, two splendid venues which the French absolutely loved. It was a delight to catch up again with our friends from across the Channel after a three year Covid hiatus. They did however bring over a very strong team and ran out comfortable winners.
On a more positive note, we were successful in a close fought match against the Lutine played at West Sussex – again a superb venue. One of the attractions of being a member of the LSGC is of course the opportunity it gives us to play competitive golf at some of the best venues in the UK.
