PALMARES – WITH THANKS
My warmest thanks to all participants, their families and loved-ones, who travelled extensively, to join together to participate in the 10th European Legal Team Championship in Palmares.
Whilst the golf was intense, the relaxed and convivial atmosphere around the Club House and Hotel was a testament to the ethos of the Law Society Golf Club. New members introduced to the Championship, old friendships renewed, new friends made.
Special thanks go out to the Captains of the ten competing teams – the commitment and tenacity in bringing their teams to Palmares was extraordinary. The enthusiasm and stamina of the team members is now verging on legendary, especially when the ‘extended youth’ of the players is factored into the mix!! Perhaps we were fortunate with the cooler weather enjoyed for the Championship, which was less energy-sapping for the golfers than the usual heat of Portugal in June. Whatever factors were in play, the Championship was hard-fought and well won.
It’s always a pleasure to see the Club’s flag atop the flagpole at the venues we visit. This year, an additional flag was donated to the Club, which was flown at the Vila Galé Hotel throughout the Championship, thoughtfully gifted by Patrick Musters, who also supplied the dedicated LSGC pin flags – all 27 holes!! The contributions of Peter & Denise Read and Gerry Johnson, before and during the Championship, are also gratefully acknowledged.
However, the most important contribution to Championship was made by each and every participant who made the journey to Portugal, whether players or accompanying families and loved-ones. Each meal share and each pleasantry exchanged was the ‘glue’ in the success of the whole undertaking.
In 2022, it will be a celebration of 30 years of the inception of the ELTC. Some of the inaugural participants of that first ELTC were golfing with us in Portugal this year!! – a testament to good golf and good company!!
Finally – I pass on Tricia’s warmest thanks and congratulations to all who gathered in Portugal in 2019 … and I join with her in passing on our heat-felt thanks to you all.
May we meet again in 2022, with the prospect of great golf and socialising, in equal measure.
